Who is Bactroban for ?
Mupirocin, an antibiotic, is used to treat
impetigo as well as other skin infections caused by bacteria. It is
not effective against fungal or viral infections. this medication is
sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist
for more information. |

How does it work ?
Mupirocin binds to a specific bacterial enzyme,
which prevents the bacteria from reproducing. This decreases the
number of bacteria, and promotes healing of the infection. |

When should I be careful taking Bactroban ?
Before using mupirocin,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are
allergic to mupirocin or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor and pharmacist what
prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking,
especially chloramphenicol (Chloromycetin).
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan
to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant
while taking mupirocin, call your doctor.

Side Effects
Although side effects from mupirocin are not
common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms
are severe or do not go away:
- burning, stinging, pain, itching, or rash
