Who is Flomax for ?

How does it work ?
Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker that blocks the
alpha-receptors found in the smooth muscle of the prostate gland and
part of the bladder. This action results in relaxation of these
muscles, thus reducing the pressure in this specific area and
decreasing the blockage related to benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). |

When should I be careful taking Flomax ?
Before taking tamsulosin,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are
allergic to tamsulosin or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor and pharmacist what
prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking,
especially anticoagulants ("blood thinners") such as warfarin (Coumadin),
cimetidine (Tagamet), doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress),
terazosin (Hytrin), and vitamins.
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan
to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant
while taking tamsulosin, call your doctor.
- if you are having surgery, including dental
surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking tamsulosin.
- you should know that this drug may make you
drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how
this drug affects you.
- remember that alcohol can add to the
drowsiness caused by this drug.

Side Effects
Although side effects from tamsulosin are not
common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms
are severe or do not go away:
- dizziness
- sleepiness
- runny nose
- sexual dysfunction (difficulty ejaculating)
