Perdiem Fiber

Perdiem Fiber Ingredients: Psyllium
Representative Names: Fiberall, Genfiber, Hydrocil Instant, Konsyl, Konsyl-D, Metamucil, Modane Bulk Powder, Natural Fiber Laxative, Perdiem Fiber, Reguloid, Serutan, Siblan, Syllact
What is Perdiem Fiber ?

Perdiem Fiber is a bulk-forming laxative. When taken by mouth, methylcellulose absorbs water in the stomach and intestines, thus regulating the bulk (size), consistency, and movement of the stool. It can treat chronic constipation or chronic diarrhea. Perdiem Fiber is available without prescription as granules, powder, or wafers.

What should my health care professional know before I take Perdiem Fiber ?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
•abdominal or stomach pain
•intestinal or bowel blockage
•phenylketonuria
•vomiting
•an unusual or allergic reaction to Perdiem Fiber, tartrazine dye, other medicines, dyes, or preservatives

How should I take Perdiem Fiber ?

Take Perdiem Fiber products by mouth. Always take with plenty of water (at least one full glass or roughly 8 oz.). Take exactly as directed. There are several different forms of Perdiem Fiber. Find the one that suits you best. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed. This laxative is not recommended for children under 6 years of age without physician supervision.

What if I miss a Perdiem Fiber dose ?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

What drug(s) may interact with Perdiem Fiber ?

It is best not to take Perdiem Fiber within 1 to 2 hours of taking other medicines. The following medicines in particular may be affected:
•digoxin
•salicylates (like aspirin, choline salicylate, or magnesium salicylate)

What side effects may I notice from taking Perdiem Fiber ?

Serious side effects are rare and can be prevented by taking the medication with plenty of water.
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
•chest pain
•difficulty breathing
•difficulty swallowing
•nausea, vomiting

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
•bloating or "gassy" feelings
•diarrhea
•lower stomach discomfort or cramps

What should I watch for while taking Perdiem Fiber ?

Do not use for more than one week without advice from your prescriber or health care professional. It can take up to 3 days to see the full effect of taking Perdiem Fiber.

If you are taking effervescent Perdiem Fiber tablets, be aware that these contain large amounts of sodium, especially if you are on a low-sodium diet.

Always take Perdiem Fiber with plenty of water. This can prevent the material swelling in the throat and prevent swallowing, or make you vomit.

Do not inhale dust from the Perdiem Fiber powder or granules. This can make breathing difficult and cause an allergic reaction.

Where can I keep Perdiem Fiber ?

Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.

Store at room temperature, in a tightly closed container. Protect from moisture. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
