Zanamivir

Who is Zanamivir for ?

Zanamivir is used to treat adults and children > 12 years of age who suffer from the influenza virus (the common flu) and have been symptomatic for no more than two days.

When should I be careful taking Zanamivir ?

Before taking Zanamivir,

• tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking
• tell your doctor if you have an underlying respiratory disease (such as asthma or emphysema). Keep a fast-acting inhaled bronchodilator (like albuterol or Proventil) available while using Zanamivir. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience worsening of your breathing symptoms.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

Zanamivir Side Effects

Although side effects with Zanamivir are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if these symptoms are severe or do not go away.

• Headaches
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Nasal signs & symptoms
• Bronchitis (inflammation of the air passages in the lungs)
• Cough
• Sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses)
• Ear, nose, & throat infections
• Dizziness
