FLU DESCRIPTION |
|
|
|
Influenza, or ‘flu’ as it is commonly known, is an illness that
affects the upper and lower airway tracts. It is often accompanied
by symptoms such as headache, aches and pains, general fatigue and
weakness. Outbreaks occur every winter. Influenza can cause
significant morbidity (sickness) and in some cases may even cause
death, primarily due to lung complications. The young, the elderly
and those with a suppressed immune system are particularly
susceptible to influenza and the complications arising from it.
These groups are advised to have the flu vaccine. |
