FLU SYMPTOMS |
|
|
Most people are familiar with the symptoms of flu as few of us have
escaped infection. Typical symptoms include:
| • |
Headaches. |
| • |
Aches and pains in
joints and muscles (especially common in the legs and back
region). |
| • |
Fever. |
| • |
Cough. |
| • |
Sneezing. |
| • |
Sore throat. |
| • |
General fatigue and
weakness. |
|
• |
Rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal passages) |
The onset of
symptoms is usually sudden and, unless there are complications,
symptoms usually last between two and five days. However, it can
take some people weeks to feel fully better.
Among susceptible individuals, frequent complications include
pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs), worsening of heart failure
and exacerbations of chronic obstructive lung disease. Other, more
infrequent complications arising from the flu virus include
myocarditis (inflammation of the muscle of the heart); pericarditis
(inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart); encephalitis (inflammation
of the brain). |
