HEAD LICE

Lotions and shampoos containing
permethrin are usually effective. For example, Nix and Rid are
available over-the-counter. If these do not work, lindane and other
products are available by prescription. Lice are becoming resistant
to these products, however, making it more difficult to clear up
lice infections.
The medications used for lice are insecticides. Therefore, they
should be used exactly as directed and no more frequently than
recommended on the package insert.
Certain products loosen the bond between the egg sack (nit) and the
hair shaft so that the eggs can be easily removed. Remove eggs with
a nit comb. Removal of all eggs may prevent reinfection if the
medication fails to kill all of them. |
