IMPOTENCE
TREATMENTS |

The majority of cases of erectile dysfunction can
be effectively treated by your GP. Depending on whether impotence
has been diagnosed as being caused by psychological or physical
problems, treatment will involve medication, counselling or both.
Your doctor will discuss the various options with you and recommend
a treatment that is most suitable for you.
In a
small number of cases, surgery may be necessary. Implants called
prostheses can be surgically inserted into the penis. These implants
can be semi-rigid, malleable or inflatable. The inflatable implant
is filled with fluids by squeezing on a pump, which is located in
the scrotum. Problems with mechanical failure and infection can
arise.
Some patients with
Peyronie’s disease may have the angulation deformity corrected by
surgery.
In certain cases
blocked arteries can be reconstructed to feed blood to the penis.
