Alzheimer's disease
is the most common type of dementia. It is an irreversible, slowly
progressive condition in which the person's personality and
abilities diminish until they no longer recognise those things that
were once familiar to them. People with Alzheimer's eventually
require total care.
Alzheimer's disease
affects more than 11 million people worldwide and the incidence is
increasing. It is commonest in the over 65-year age group but it can
also present at a younger age, usually in individuals with a genetic
predisposition to developing the disease. |
