TESTICULAR CANCER
SYMPTOMS |
|
|
|
Testicular cancer can present in three different ways:
| • |
An
enlarging testicular lump (most cases); |
| • |
Symptoms relating to hormone production such as breast
enlargement; |
| • |
Symptoms related to spread of the testicular tumour. For example,
in the majority of cases the first place the cancer will spread
to is the glands and the abdomen. This often causing low back
pain due to the pressure of the enlarged glands pushing against
the spine. |
In most cases,
testicular cancer will present as a slowly or rapidly enlarging lump
in one testes. Many men give a history of trauma or getting a blow
to the testes but it may be that this simply draws attention to an
already existing lump.
Early diagnosis can save lives. Check your testes regularly for
lumps and if you notice any changes, including a change in the size,
colour or texture of testes go to your doctor and get it checked out
as a matter of urgency. It must be stressed that there are many
other causes of swollen or enlarged testes such as fluid or
infection and the majority of lumps in the testes are not cancerous. |
