THYROID TREATMENTS

Thyroid hormone production is a complex process. A part of your brain makes a hormone that causes your pituitary gland to release thyroid-stimulating hormone. Your thyroid then produces 2 different thyroid hormones: T4 and T3. An underactive thyroid gland produces too little thyroid hormone. When this happens, thyroid hormone replacement therapy is prescribed.

Thyroid replacement is a lifelong therapy. Do not stop taking your thyroid medication because you feel better. If you stop taking your medication, your symptoms are likely to return.
